My Therapeutic Approach

I am an integrative art psychotherapist, which means my work is informed by multiple therapeutic theories and approaches.

As well as talking, part of our work together would be utilising art making to communicate thoughts, emotions and experiences. Sometimes words are not enough and art psychotherapy can help you to harness the transformative power of creativity for self-expression and healing.

Sometimes, I integrate EMDR therapy into my work. This is a specialised trauma-processing technique which can help your brain and body know that the danger has passed and you are safe now.

As a practitioner, I believe every individual is multi-faceted and work in a non-judgemental and holistic way which considers the cognitive thought processes of the mind as well the feeling, somatic realm of the body.

Recognising, honouring and understanding the often confusing landscape of emotions is central to the way I work and I believe that creating a safe space where you can feel the stirrings of your own inner compass is key to healing.

Like stones shaped by the water that rushes over them, we are all shaped by our past experiences and I am interested in the things which may have happened to you to shape the person you are today.

Together, we can work in a trauma-informed way to safely process difficult memories, experiences or emotions which may be holding you back and allow you to blossom into a new way of being.

“Every pain
Every grievance
Every stab of shame
Every day spent with a demon in your brain giving chase
Hold it

Know the wolves that hunt you
In time, they will be the dogs that bring your slippers
Love them right and you will feel them kiss you when they come to bite
Hot snouts digging out your cuddles with their bloody muzzles
Hold”
