FAQs

What are your fees?

I charge different fees for different types of therapy. They are as follows:

  • Adult integrative art psychotherapy - £60

  • Young person’s integrative art therapy - £60

  • EMDR therapy - £80

Integrative art therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. EMDR sessions are an hour long.

I offer reduced rates for art psychotherapy students in training. Please contact me for more information.

How do I book a session?

I recommend booking a free consultation first so we can have a chat to see if we would like to work together.

You can book and pay for your initial session online. Once you have chosen a session time which suits you, this time will be reserved for you and we will meet the same time every week. From this point onwards, sessions will be paid for via bank transfer.

How often would we have sessions together?

If we decide to work together, we would meet once a week. During our initial meeting together, I will ask some questions to find out more about you, what brings you to therapy and which issues you would like to focus on.

What will we do in an art psychotherapy session?

You will make art and talk (which may be done at the same time) or you can make art in silence if that’s your preference. When making art, you can choose materials that best suit you e.g., paint, pastel or clay.

The art therapist may sit quietly and pay attention whilst you make art or they may make art alongside you, depending on your needs during each session. You and the art therapist will also talk and think together to make sense of the thoughts, feelings and experiences that come up during your art-making or when you look at your artwork.

You might not make art every session and some sessions may primarily involve talking therapy.

Do I need to be good at art to do art therapy?

No, you do not need to have any previous experience or expertise in art to benefit from art therapy. Art psychotherapy isn’t a recreational activity or an art lesson, although the sessions can be enjoyable.

What is EMDR therapy ?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive psychotherapy that can help you process and recover from past experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing.

It involves using side to side eye movements combined with talk therapy in a specific and structured format.

EMDR was developed – and is best known – as a therapy for treating trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Is there a waiting area?

There is a waiting area for parents or guardians if they wish to stay in the building while sessions take place. This area is in a communal space and the distance from the studio ensures privacy and confidentiality.

Please do not arrive to sessions early as I need to let you in and may not be available before your session start time.

Is the studio accessible?

Unfortunately, the studio is not wheelchair accessible as there are 3 single steps to access the space.

The studio is on the ground floor along with toilet facilities and is suitable for people who may struggle with flights of stairs.

Is there parking at the studio?

There is no designated parking for the studio. There is a small amount of free parking on Arley Street and some paid for spaces. Parking starts at £1.10 per hour.

Which bus routes serve the studio?

Arley street is located just off London Road and is served by many bus routes including:

  • 20, 43, 44, 56, 75, 76, 86, 97, 98

The nearest bus stops are London Road/John Street or London Road/Alderson Road.
